Vernon Baptiste's Obituary
Vernon Baptiste was born in Point Fortin, Trinidad on January 29, 1929, to parents Festus Baptiste and Mary Stephens. Vernon was the fourth eldest of their six children. Alma, Augustus (deceased), and Theresa (deceased) preceded him, and He was succeeded by Rawlins (Cax)(deceased) and Leon (deceased).
Vernon began his young career as office boy for United British Oil Fields of Trinidad (UBOT). As his career progressed, he began to pursue Data Processing. UBOT was acquired by Shell Oil, and Vernon's tenure as a Data Processor became the launching pad for his career in computing. Along the way, Vernon met and married the love of his life, Nevlyn Gilbert.
Nevlyn and Vernon migrated to New York in 1968, where he continued to pursue his career in computer science. Eventually they both worked at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. He as the Manager of Data Processing, and she as a radiology clerk. Vernon fathered eleven children, and seven of them were from his union with Nevlyn.
In 2007 Vernon and Nevlyn were on the move once again; they left Brooklyn for Conyers Georgia. Both resided there until their transitions. Vernon was Daddy to his kids, Uncle Vernon to many, and finally Poppa to a multitude of grandchildren. He had many affectionate nick names over the years, many of which, are personal to specific people. Here are but a few: Dog, Mr. V, Mr. Butler, Mr. Johnny, etc.... He will be sorely missed by a host of family and friends. We'll miss you dearly and treasure the memories.
He was called home on January 17th, 2022, where he will join the love-of-his-life Nevlyn (deceased), his daughter Valerie (deceased), and his grandchildren Wendell Jr. (deceased) and Nadine (deceased). He is Survived by his elder sister Alma; His loving children Knolly, Helen, Greta, Noreen, Charlene, Sharon, Garvin, Amanda, Petra, and Wendell; His grandchildren - Roger, Anthony, Rohna, O'neil, Ryan, Arlene, Tyron, Naomi, Andre (Greta), Diann, Anthony (Greta), Qumar, Angelique, Gabrielle, Andre, Brianna, Nikki, Jaron, Tara, Eddie, (Twins) Lisa and Lori, Naomi, Ashley, Karina, Tatyanna, Kayla. In addition, he is survived by countless nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other family members that are too many to enumerate. To cousin Gloria, a special thank for speaking with nightly. He looked forward to those conversations.
