Thomas Marshal Smith's Obituary
Thomas Marshall Smith was born on November 19, 1949, in Newton County, Covington Georgia to the parentage of the late Norman and Carrie Mae Smith. Thomas Marshall Smith unknowingly transitioned into eternal life as the pronouncement was made on Wednesday, July 17, 2019.
Thomas attended the schools of Newton County and graduated from R.L. Cousins High School in 1967. In 1969, Thomas was drafted into the United States Military Army Branch, he served 2 years including time fought in the Vietnam War. During his time of serving in the military, he was awarded and authorized several Medals, Badges, Commendations, Citations and Campaign Ribbons as well as he received additional education and training.
Thomas accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Richards Chapel United Methodist Church. He visited other churches yet came back to his home church at Richards Chapel United Methodist Church in February, 2019 to rededicate his life and renewed his membership.
During his journey of employment, he pursued a career at the Atlanta Marta Rail System as a bus driver for several years; he was later promoted as the first African American Marta Rail Train operator; still desiring more to learn, he became an Operator Mechanic for Marta. While employed at Marta he aimed to attend Atlanta Area Technical Institute to study Heating and Air Conditioning. After graduating, he pursued employment in the Heating and Air Conditioning industry that motivated him to start his own heating and air conditioning business.
Thomas was preceded in death by his mother (Carrie M. Smith), father (Norman Smith), 2 sisters (Ruth Hardeman and Evelyn Smith), 1 brother (Edwin Smith) and grandparents.
Thomas is survived by 2 sons: Erric Pitts and Corey Owens; 7 grandchildren: Erric Kendall Allen, Dylan Kenneth Pitts, Journey Dawn Pitts, NiKyah D. Owens, Josiah R. Owens, Coretni R. Owens and Cameron R. Owens; 1 great granddaughter Riley Kendall Allen; his brother Wallace (Eunice) Smith; 2 nieces: Priscilla Davis and Precious (Grote Levett) Atkinson; 2 nephews: Michael (Maria) Smith and Reginald (Susan) Hurst; 2 great nephews: Emmanuel (Lynn) Smith and Desmond Atkinson; 1 great nephew Michael Rey Smith; 1 great-great nephew Jason Smith; 1 great-great niece Alexis Smith.
Thomas lived his life to his fullest and loved in his own way. The memories of Thomas shall forever be cherished in the hearts of loving relatives, friends and 1 long life momentous friend "Barbara Ann Cobb".
