Sonia Ann Stewart's Obituary
Sonia Ann Stewart was born on August 10, 1964, in Yonkers, New York, to Emmitt Oliver Sr. and Rosalind Oliver. She peacefully departed this life on August 4, 2025, just days shy of her 61st birthday, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, laughter, and steadfast devotion to her family and friends. A woman of deep faith, Sonia was a dedicated member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Covington, Georgia. She served faithfully as the head of the Usher Board, a role she embraced with grace and commitment until her health began to decline in 2020. Her warm smile and welcoming spirit were a blessing to all who entered the church doors. Sonia earned an associate's degree in business management and dedicated 25 years of service to the United States Postal Service before retiring in 2022. Her work ethic and commitment were admired by all who knew her.
In her youth, Sonia was an avid athlete who found joy in basketball and track. In retirement, she embraced her creative side through arts and crafts, but her greatest joy came from spending time with loved ones. Sonia had a gift for making everyone feel welcome-her home was always open, her table always full, and her heart always generous. Whether it was a home-cooked meal, a lively cookout, or a family gathering, Sonia was the vibrant spirit at the center of it all. She was known for her love of good food, her infectious laughter, and her zest for life. A trip to the casino or a family celebration was never complete without Sonia's presence-she truly lived life "large and in charge."
Sonia's passing was preceded by the loss of her beloved parents, Emmitt Oliver Sr. and Rosalind Oliver; her cherished grandmother, Evelyn Watkins; her brother-in-law, Michael Young Sr.; and her best friend, Melanie Biggs. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Larry Stewart Sr.; her children, Larry Stewart Jr. and Michaela Davis; her children-in-love, Erika Heart and Linden Ault; and her treasured godchildren, Ricky Wallace and Anthony Oliver. Sonia was a proud grandmother to Larry Stewart III, Anthony Stewart, Larissa Raynor, Malachi Raynor, Ryder Stewart, Remy Stewart, Emilliano Ortiz, and grandchildren-in-love Ava Barksdale and Lail ah Barksdale. She is also survived by her stepmother, Evelyn Oliver; her siblings, Sherry Clark-Davis (Lester Davis), Emmitt Oliver Jr. (Eraina Oliver), Rhonda Young (Michael Young Sr.), Lorie Bugre (Samuel Bugre), and Tyrone Oliver; her aunt, Pricilia McCoy; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Sonia's radiant spirit, boundless generosity, and deep love for her family will be remembered always. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
