Shirley Webb Saffo's Obituary
Shirley Webb Saffo, a selfless soul, was born on September 4, 1950, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob and Irene Webb. "Shelly," as her dad affectionately called her, was the oldest child of eleven children and protector of her siblings. Shirley, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, departed this life peacefully on February 16, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Shirley was baptized at Peeks Chapel Baptist Church at an early age under Reverend GE Godfrey. She was a faithful member and served in the Church Choir and Usher Board. Shirley was a product of the Rockdale County Public Schools System, where she attended the John Phillip Carr School; and graduated in June 1968. Shirley began her postsecondary education by attending nursing school. She went on to earn a Certification in Nursing Assistant. Shirley's compassionate nature and empathy for people were vital in her 30-plus years of service at Snellville Nursing Facility in Snellville, GA.
Shirley was taught valuable life skills by her parents, such as cooking, gardening, money matters, and other home skills that became pivotal after her mother's death. Her father was able to depend on and rely on her throughout the years to help with her siblings and other family members while he worked.
Shirley met the love of her life in 1967. She said, "it was love at first sight." They had a strong bond, and their love was kind and unique. Shirley was united in Holy matrimony on June 29, 1969, to her life companion of 48 years, the late Waymon Saffo. No one could call "W A Y M O N" as she could. Although they had no children, they claimed their nieces and nephews as their pride and joy. Shirley would shine with her beautiful smile when her nieces and nephews were around.
Shirley was very family oriented and loved spending together. She had many gifts, one of which was cooking. Family and friends would often request her potato salad, sweet potato pie, fried corn, fried chicken, and cornbread, to name a few. Shirley enjoyed making memories with family and friends and was known as the family historian. She cherished laughter and had a great sense of humor, appreciated nature and enjoyed sitting outdoors, and loved watching Family Feud.
Shirley never met a stranger. She was very outgoing, friendly, and liked to travel. Shirley followed in her late mother's footsteps by becoming a Ladies Imperial Social Club member, where she served as the treasurer for over 30 years.
Shirley Webb Saffo, a devoted wife, loving daughter, caring sibling, and nurturing aunt, leaves to cherish her memory: siblings Willie (Charlotte) Zanders, Sheila Jones, Anthony Webb, Brenda Webb, and Donald Webb; uncle Albert Rakestraw, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband of 48 years, Waymon Saffo; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob and Irene Webb; brothers, Gerald Webb and Michael Webb; and sisters, Debra Webb Patterson and Belinda Webb.
