Nevlyn Baptiste's Obituary
Nevlyn G Baptiste was born in River Salle, Grenada on September 16, 1934 to parents Bobbiana Ettienne Gilbert and Charles Gilbert. She was the eldest of the three children along with her late brother Sidwin Gilbert and late sister Enid Gilbert Lynch. When Nevlyn was just five years old, Bobbiana migrated to Trinidad with her girls in search of greater opportunities
As a teenager, Nevlyn met the love of her life, Vernon Baptiste. They were soon married, and they had seven children as result of their union. Vernon and Nevlyn migrated to New York in 1968. He pursued a career in computer science. They both worked for Methodist Hospital; he was the Data Processing Manager and she was Radiology clerk at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. By 1971, the entire family had been reunited and resided in Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. Family meant everything to Nevlyn
In 2007 Nevlyn and Vernon were on the move once again; they left Brooklyn, for Conyers, Georgia. They resided here until her transition on August 11, 2020. Nevlyn was a woman of great faith. Despite her many years of illnesses and chronic conditions, she kept her faith. Never once asking, "Why Me"? She was the matriarch of her family, and her beautiful heart had a great impact on all who met her. no matter the distance or circumstance. To her children, she was affectionately known as "Mother"; however, to the grandchildren and great grandkids she was just "Mama." So, it did not come as surprise that eventually everyone (friends, family, acquaintances, etc.) came to know her as Mama. Mama had one of the most beautiful voices ever heard, and she truly loved to sing. Not to mention, she had the most unique penmanship that won her many praises. Her kindness and sweetness were recognized the moment you met her. Can you imagine a humble and shy woman that would blush at a moment's notice? Well, that was Mama. We will miss her infectious smile and laughter because it was her most endearing quality.
She was called home on August 11,2020, where she will join her eldest daughter Valerie (deceased) and her grandson Wendell jr. (deceased). She is survived by her husband Vernon Baptiste; her loving Children; Noreen, Charlene, Sharon, Garvin, Amanda, and Wendell. Stepchildren: Knolly, Helen, Greta and Petra. Her grandchildren Jaron, Tara-Marie, Anthony, Dominique, Andre, Angelique, Blake, (twins) Lisa and Lori, Gabrielle, Naomi, Tatyanna, Brianna, Ashley, Karina and Kayla. Grand -in Laws Sheena, Carl and Tony. Her great grandkids; Johntavius, Alona, Jadon, Amiya, Langston, Veronica, Jordan, Jacob, Dominic, Aubree, and Chace. Neices and nephews; Bianca, Laurenda, Laverne, Curtis, Albert, Lawrence, Carol, Trevor and Martin.
