Mildred Peggy Lou Hobson-Thigpen's Obituary
Mildred "Peggy Lou" Hobson Thigpen was born March 15, 1933, to late George and Mattie Hobson in Cohay Mississippi. She was called homed peacefully in her sleep on April 17th, Easter morning 2022, at home in Stone Mountain, GA, with her family by her side.
She was the eldest sibling and loving sister to Greene Prince and Lawrence Clifton Hobson. She joined Morning Star Baptist at an early age and was a faithful member for many years. Peggy Lou was united in matrimony to Sammie Thigpen on May 27, 1955. Their union was blessed with two daughters, and they later adopted their granddaughter as their daughter.
Peggy Lou, at an early age developed a love for music and learned to play the piano under the tutelage of Ms. Hattie V. J. McInnis. While she attended Oak Park School, she also played for the school chorus. Her talents as a pianist allowed for her to play for several churches in the Laurel area. Which included Morning Star Baptist Church, East Jerusalem Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church. She also played for numerous weddings and church programs throughout Jones County.
Peggy graduated from Jackson State University with a Bachelors' degree in Early Childhood Education. Her teaching career started in the Jones County school system where she taught for more than 34 years. During this time, she received several "Teacher of the Year "awards and other accolades.
Pegs favorite past time was growing flowers, listening to music and traveling. Her favorite sport was baseball. She enjoyed watching her favorite team the Atlanta Braves and was fortunate to see them play in person on several occasions.
Peggy Lou is proceeded in death by her parents George and Mattie Hobson, and her husband Sammie Thigpen. She leaves to cherish her memories, her bothers Green Prince Hobson of Laurel, MS. Lawrence Clifton (Jerry) Hobson of Dallas. TX. Three daughters Angela (James) Banks of Dallas TX, Kathy Gore of Stone Mountain GA, and Toni Scott of Lithonia, GA. Five granddaughters Toni Scott of Lithonia, GA, Lauren Gore of Washington DC, Kelsey Gore of Atlanta, GA, Holland and Reagan Banks both of Houston TX. Four great grandchildren Sami, Eian and Ryan Scott all of Lithonia, GA and Miles McCorvey of Atlanta, GA. A special caregiver Marcia Christie-Bell and host of nieces, nephews and friends.
