Mattie L Pope-Stanford's Obituary
Mother Mattie Lou Pope Stanford was born on February 11, 1926 in Monticello, Georgia to Mr. Dave Pope and Ms. Hattie Johnson. On August 20 1949 the Lord united Ray Stanford and Mattie Pope in Holy Matrimony as one, through this union seven children were born. On June 5, 2017 Mother Stanford heard a call from God and she answered. Mother Stanford joined Miller's Chapel Baptist Church at an early age. She served faithfully on the Mother Board, as a Communion Stewardess and as a member of the Willing Worker Yellow River Association. Mother Stanford was a very dedicated member until her health failed. She also was a very hardworking dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who took care of her family. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, gardening, being around family and singing her tunes. Mother Stanford was preceded in death by her late husband Deacon Ray Stanford, one brother and one sister, Mr. Willie Johnson and Mrs. Gennie Carter. She leaves to mourn six daughters and one son, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Shirley) Flanigan of Covington GA, Ms. Betty Stanford of Covington GA, Mr. Aaron Stanford of Conyers GA, Mrs. Louise Bailey of Conyers GA, Ms. Peggy Stanford of Conyers GA, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Charlotte) Camp of Covington GA and Mrs. Juanita Brown of Covington GA. Eleven grandchildren (Mike, David, Sherika, Tamika, Sherida, Gabriel, Chris, Quavis, LaRhonda, Timothy and Tiffany). Twenty-one great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren and one on the way. She leaves also her loving caring twin sister, Maggie Lee Battle of Macon GA who she loved dearly. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including two special friends, Mr. Thaddeus Bailey and Mr. Gary Baker. Those who trust in the Lord will find new Strength. -Isaiah 40:31
