Mattie: Born to the late Willie Pitts and Eliza Carroll in Walton County, Georgia on June 23, 1931
She attended Graves Chapel School in Newton County
Mattie accepted Christ and joined Graves Chapel AME at an early age where she later went on to serve as a class leader.
She married the love of her life Mr. Green Gibson on July 26, 1952
She was affectionately known by family and friends as "Sister". She was a strong will person never hesitated to speak her mind. She enjoyed cooking and baking, helping others, and spending time with her family.
Siblings preceded her in death: Mr. Willie Joe Pitts, Mr. Eugene Pitts, Mr. Moses Pitts, & Mr. Nathaniel Pitts
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters: Mrs. Bobbie Jean (Charles) Barber & Evangelist Betty Jean Gibson both of Conyers, Ga, two grandchildren: Mr. Frederick (Jessica) Chaney of Conyers, Ga & Mrs. Shameka (Adrian) Smith of Powder Springs, Ga., six great grandchildren: Morgan, Mykaela, Ava, AJ, Miyani, & Mar-Stasja, one brother: Mr. Marion Pitts of Los Angeles, California, four sisters: Mrs. Betty Carter of Decatur, Ga; Ms. Dorothy Crowley of Atlanta, Ga; Mrs. Brenda Thomas of Fairborn, Ga; & Mrs. Clara (Hosea) Jackson of Atlanta, Ga., two sister-in-laws: Ms. Nellie Crowder of Conyers, Ga & Mrs. Doris Gibson of Decatur, Ga. one aunt: Mrs. Lou Jean Carroll of Decatur, Ga., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends
