Mary Lizzie Cornwell's Obituary
Mary Lizzie Cornwell was born on February 4th, 1939 to the late Johnnie Mae Smith and Boyce Johnson in Monticello, Georgia. She was the third eldest child, in which four siblings, Della Heard, Willie Johnson, Collin Johnson, and Otis Smith Jr., preceded her in death. At an early age, Mary joined the Rock Springs Missionary Baptist Church family and served on the Usher Board until her health begin to decline.
After relocating to Conyers during grade school, Mary met the late Robert Cornwell and married him in 1956. To this 56-year union, six children were born, in which two preceded her in death, Laron and Lawanna Cornwell. Mary spent the majority of her life as a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother that enjoyed having her family close. She also worked behind the scenes of Cornwell Construction, as she maintained the payroll and expenses.
Mary was called to rest on September 6th, 2020. She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy: Four children, Janet Cornwell Freeman, Boyce (Keisha) Cornwell Sr., Karen Cornwell and Adonis Cornwell; seven grandchildren, Darius (Tiffany) Freeman Sr., Keneisha (Clifford) Stroud, Demario Freeman, Kierra Keith, Kyndra (Ventavis) Parks, Boyce Jr. and Kameron Cornwell; seven great-grandchildren, Janiya, Kennedi, and JaKayla Moore, Darius Jr. and Dorian Freeman, Kason Keith, and Arya Parks; Brothers and sister, Emma Kate Worthery, Leon (Brenda) Smith, Oscar James (Mary) Smith, and Grady Smith; Brother and Sisters-in-Law, Willie (Louise) Benton, Betty Anderson, and Naomi (Harold) McGuire; a close friend, Ms. Dorothy Lowe; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
