Marlon Vinson Flanigan's Obituary
Marlon Vinson Flanigan transitioned from this life on March 18, 2019. He was born in
Atlanta, Georgia on June 15, 1972 to the late Marshall William Flanigan, Jr. and Eula Carlene McCollum-Flanigan.
Marlon was a 1990 graduate of Heritage High School where he excelled in basketball and track. He also had a love for playing drums which provided an outlet for him to freely express himself. His interest in playing drums kept him in church where he learned countless other lessons. He went on to attend Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Fl where he was active in the Student Government Association as a Freshman Senator and also played an active role in the Public Relations Student Society of America. Politics, Journalism and a study of systems fueled Marlon in his quest to overcome the forces of institutional racism. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism in December of 1994. He was a Free Spirit in life, and like his Mom and Dad, enjoyed traveling and exploring the world.
Marlon leaves to cherish fond memories: daughters, Akeala Flanigan and Rodrica Hill, a son, Jordan Flanigan and granddaughter, De'Niyah Thompson; a brother, Marshall Flanigan, III; nephews, Marshall Flanigan, IV and LaDarius James; and his former wife and mother of his children, Chanda Brown Jenkins; Aunts: Ella Ruth Foster-Nolley, Mae Gladys Rakestraw (Albert), and Gladys McCollum (Howard); Uncles: Matthew Flanigan (Linda), Paul Flanigan, Sr. (Carlene) and Howard Flanigan, Sr. (Judy Lynn) and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
