LOVINIA ADINA WYNTER's Obituary
Ms. Lovina Wynter, age 91, of Conyers, Georgia passed on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
Lovina Adina Wynter was born on March 5,1932 in Sand Hole District St. Catherine, Jamaica to Obediah Wynter and Elma Wynter (Also known as Nee) Nelson. She was the twelfth of fourteen children. Lovina attended the Anglican Elementary School then moved on to Bellas Gate High School, where she obtained her high school diploma. At the tender age of sixteen Lovina gave her life to the lord, but she didn't stop there, she went further to achieve a skill in dressmaking. At the age of eighteen years old, Lovina relocated to Kingston, where she met her soulmate Mr. Joseph Stephenson. After being together for some time, their togetherness brought forth eight beautiful children. As the years went by both Lovina and Joseph seeked out the best ways to take care of their children. Joseph was a knowledgeable master carpenter while Lovina strived to elevate herself and strengthen her skills in dressmaking. She even began sewing clothing for her children and many others. In 1969 Lovina was hired at the Children's Hospital in Kingston Jamaica as a laundry attendant, ward assistant and childcare assistant. She was a faithful and dedicated worker for twenty-one years at the hospital. She was loved, appreciated and respected by many. Lovina Wynter assisted many persons with obtaining employment in the Hospital. Being a lovable and attractive woman, Lovina was admired by the late Governor General of Jamaica, Florizel Glasspole. During his term he would go to the hospital for Christmas giving away gifts for the children. However, Lovina was a special brownskin gift that he would not leave without planting a big kiss on her. In 1972, Lovina was left by herself to raise eight children after the passing of Mr. Joseph Stephenson. It was not easy, but God. Despite the struggles Lovina did not give up. She stayed focused and determined. After more years of dedication and hard work, Lovina was able to officially retire from the Children's Hospital. In 1997 Lovina Wynter joined her children in the States. While living in the U.S., Lovina strived to strengthen her relationship with God and she accompanied her children to different churches. In May of 2011, Lovina Wynter was honored and recognized as one of the mothers of the church in Liberty Hall Cathedral of Praise Brooklyn, New York. Not only that but also given a signed proclamation by the former New York State Senator, John L Sampson. She was indeed a mighty woman of God in faith and dedicated to the work of God. In 2015 Mother Wynter relocated to North Carolina with her daughter Hazel. After some time, she accompanied her to The Parks Church where she then became a member. Lovina was loved for her worship and praise to the lord at any church she went to. In 2021 Mother Wynter relocated to Conyers, Georgia with her daughter Enid. As time went on and age began to be a factor, Mother Wynter became ill and was not the same. Despite the feelings in her body her voice had never changed and was always powerful in every way. Although she was not always an easy nut to crack, you could depend on her to prayand give you encouraging words to nourish your spirit. Being in her presence was always a blessing, a pleasure, and a joy. Mother Wynter sadly passed away on February 6, 2024 leaving behind seven children- Errol, Clover, Enid, Sandra, Hazel, Noel, Mable and in loving memory, Guillian. In addition to her children, Mother Wynter is loved and will be missed by her brother, her twenty-six grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren & her nieces and nephews.
