Laura Belle Aikens' Obituary
Laura Belle "Curtis" Aikens (affectionately known as SweetMama), was born to William H. Curtis and Corene Bailey Curtis on April 4th, 1936 in Adairsville, GA. She married Eddie J. Aikens Sr., moved to Rockdale County, and to that union six children were born; Eddie Aikens Jr.(Margaret), Laura Regina Richards, (Deceased) Jeffery Aikens Sr. (Ella), Curtis Aikens Sr., Sophia Aikens, Portia Aikens-Humphrey (Stewart). She was preceded in death by her loving husband Eddie Aikens Sr. and her son Jeffery Aikens Sr.
Laura also leaves behind her grandchildren; Shantia Aikens, Joi Aikens, Jeffrey D. Aikens, Eddie Aikens III, Andrea Mapp, Catherine Capers, Quintrell Bruno, Ashlee Tapp, Jeffrey S. Aikens Jr., Jennifer Aikens, Curtis Aikens Jr., Lauren Aikens, and Cole Aikens. Also, her great-grandchildren; Antonio Price, Jayda Aikens, Jaylen Aikens, Hannah Barnes, Laila Ringstaff, Sy' Niha Aikens, Shia Aikens, Ayden Bruno, Princeton Tapp, and Asher Bruno. A Godson, Rev. George Levett Jr., Goddaughters Sonja Levett and Janice Walker, a devoted friend James H. Colley, and a host of family and friends.
After moving to Rockdale County, she joined Rock Temple A.M.E. church. She was a devoted member and served on many boards and organizations. Laura was a very active in the community and schools. She was instrumental in starting one of the first black female social and savings club which is still active today as The Ladies Imperials. Laura enjoyed spending time with her family and friends along with traveling. She loved to cook and was a co-author of a cookbook. She made numerous appearances on local and national television. Laura was an avid traveler and shared her joy of travel with the people of the East Metro Area by organizing trips throughout North America working with Harmon Brothers Motor Line until her health declined. In 1972 Laura received her GED. She served in the booster clubs as her children and grandchildren were active in sports. She served on the board of Directors for Rockdale County Department of Family and Children Services for over 20 years. Laura also worked for George Levett Sr. Funeral Home. Laura also worked as a private sitter for over 30 years.
