Kathleen Veronica Miller-Rodney's Obituary
A Time to Be Born:
Kathleen Veronica Miller was born to Cyril Miller and Icilda Johnson in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies on February 11, 1937. She was raised by her paternal grandparents.
A Time to Plant:
She was educated through the Catholic Public School system, where she excelled as a student. Math was her favorite and best subject. She also ran track for her school. Kathleen met and married her first love, William Bolt Golding, in 1952; a union which produced five children: Doreen, Patricia, Delroy, Claude, and Jacqueline. She had two other marriages, Hubert Turner in 1984, and then to Sylvester Rodney until her death. Prior to her migration to New York in 1971, Kathleen worked at Carreras Cigarette Factory, while simultaneously pursuing her passion of hairdressing.
Kathleen was the backbone of her family, and she worked multiple jobs at a time to provide for her children after her divorce. She was widely known for her spectacular cooking. Some of her most requested specialties included rice and peas, oxtail (that would fall off of the bone), ginger shrimp, Escovitch fish, fresh squeezed lemonade, and creamy Irish Moss, just to name a few! Kathleen had a green thumb, and she loved gardening and tending to her lush array of flowers and plants. She also loved animals, especially puppies.
Those that knew Kathleen well would say that she had a servant's heart. While living in Hempstead, New York she frequently provided meals to many of the senior residents living in her building. She also served as a Volunteer Grandma within the Hempstead Union Free School District, by helping Pre-K children with their reading.
Kathleen was strong in her faith and lived her life accordingly, as she served as a Deaconess at the church she attended in New York, before relocating to Conyers, Georgia in January 2015.
A Time to Die:
On December 20, 2019, Kathleen fell asleep in death and is now in the safest place, her loving Heavenly Father's memory awaiting a resurrection. When Jesus calls - she will answer.
A Time to Mourn:
She leaves behind her husband, five children, two stepson, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, and a host of family friends.
