Joe Edward Lee Sr's Obituary
Joe Edward Lee peacefully made his transition to go home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2018 at the Atlanta VA Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia. Joe was born in Collinston, Louisiana on January 21, 1948 to F.B. and Thelma Lee who preceded him in death.
Joe was the youngest child of four siblings and grew up in a close knit family who loved one another. He was educated in the Morehouse School Parish. After graduating High School, Joe enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. Upon his return, Joe moved to Evanston, Illinois where he met the late Emma Jean Lee. He would later marry her in 1972.
Joe was very industrious and diligently worked at John Crane Packing Company in Morton Grove, Illinois for many years. He was very generous and loved to help his family and friends whenever he could.
In 2014, Joe relocated to Stone Mountain, Georgia to live with his son, Joe, Jr. and his daughter-in-law, Lynn. While living in Georgia, many people where blessed to experience his fun nature and infectious laugh. He was the life of any party and never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with just about anybody. He was affectionately called "Papa Joe," by many friends in Georgia.
In 2017, Joe's health began to decline due to a diagnosis of lung cancer. Joe, Jr., Lynn, and a host of friends, rallied around him to offer love, support and care. His faith never wavered during this very difficult time due to his strong relationship with the Lord. He always gave thanks to God in spite of what he was facing in his body and declared he wasn't going out without a fight. He literally fought to the end!
Joe joins his late father F.B, mother Thelma Lee, Sister Lois Numbers, and who all preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his children Tonya Lee (Chicago), Velisia Bosby, Flordia (Walter), Chris Lee (Springfield, MO), and Joey Lee, Atlanta (Lynn). A host of grandchildren, Adaje' Lee, Jovonte' Lee, Zana Anderson, Isaiah Anderson, Unique Lee, Delrayoshon Hunter, Marquita Chambers, O'Tia Nash, and O.T. Nash III.
