Joe Earl Flowers' Obituary
Joe Earl Flowers was born to the late Earnest Flowers, Sr. and Cora Flowers on February 5, 1948, in Dothan, Alabama. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was a member of the Faith SDA Church in Hartford, Connecticut for over 40 years, where he served as an usher, deacon, and a Pathfinder leader.
Joe received his elementary education in the sovereign country of Germany, where his father (Sgt. Major Earnest Flowers, Sr.) was stationed in the Army for seven years. Upon their return to the United States, they settled in Bloomfield, CT. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1966 and one year later was drafted in the Armed Services, where he served honorably for two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Joe had an incredible work ethic. He was employed with the Hartford Insurance Group in Hartford, CT for 17 years, however the job he cherished the most was working as a school bus dispatcher/driver for First Student Corporation in Bloomfield, CT for over 20 years. He loved his co-workers and the children whom he made sure arrived home safely each day under his supervision.
Joe Earl (as his mother affectionately called him) had an infectious personality. Laughter was a requirement when you were in his presence. He was constantly telling jokes, smiling and laughing. Joe enjoyed watching sports, traveling, eating and just having a good time. He served as a football coach for the infamous Bloomfield Raiders in the early 1980's and was a major role model for countless youth.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Earnest Flowers, Sr.; mother, Cora Flowers; sister Glenda Flowers and sister Cathy Flowers.
