Jamie Lerel Baldwin's Obituary
Jamie Lerel Baldwin, a twin, entered this world minutes before his brother, Jeremie, in Grove Hill, Alabama on April 29, 1975. He was born to the parentage of the late Ira T. Baldwin and the late Bertha Baldwin Moorer. He departed this life for an eternity in Heaven on July 11, 2020 in McDonough, Georgia.
An athlete by training and at heart, he graduated from Clarke County High School (Grove Hill, Alabama) in 1993, where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. A desire to serve his country and follow in the footsteps of his older siblings led him to enlist in the United States Army when he was in the 11th grade. He served during Desert Storm from 1992-2000 and was stationed at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah, Georgia.
He received his Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education from Armstrong College in Savannah. He later earned his Master's degree in Health Education from Greenville University. To fulfill his dream of coaching, he joined the staff at Memorial Day High School in Savannah in 2003 where he was the assistant defensive line coach and he later joined the Beach High School staff as the defensive coordinator. His opportunity to become head coach came in 2009 when he was named head coach at Johnson High School where he stayed until 2013. He also coached for one year at Vance High School in Charlotte N.C. and Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Ga. He was preparing to enter into his third year as head coach at Rockdale County High School and had recently completed his coaching thesis entitled, "Coaching Practices to Promote Team Cohesion."
Although he loved coaching, pouring into the lives of young people was his true passion. He encouraged his athletes to persevere through adversity, which would benefit them long after they had competed in their final game. He has left a legacy of truth in character for his children and students to follow as they grow and develop into productive citizens. His sense of humor, sensitive nature, and larger than life presence will be missed sorely among family members and friends alike.
In addition to his parents, his stepfather, Rev. James Moorer, Sr., sister, Susie Ann Green, and brother, Ira Lee Baldwin met him when he arrived in Heaven.
He leaves behind to cherish countless, sweet memories to his children: Jamicheal Lerel and his mother Kimberly Harris of Savannah and Kaleb Jerel and Katelyn Alana and their mother Keisha Baldwin of Conyers; four brothers: Sylvester Baldwin of Jackson, AL, Sherwood (Maxine) Baldwin of Montgomery, AL, Delvin Baldwin of Virginia Beach, and Jeremie Baldwin, his twin, of Brownsville, TX; three sisters: Annie Deloise (Walter) Morris of Jackson, AL, Linda (Roderick) Anderson of Montgomery, AL, and Pamela (Melvin) Shine, of Virginia Beach; one aunt: Ollie Mae Pugh of Jackson, AL; one uncle, John Bumpers, Jr. of Long Beach, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
