JALON MAKARI ROUNDY's Obituary
JALON MAKARI ROUNDY was born on April 14, 1996, in Oak Park, Illinois to parents Monikki Harper (nee Bradley) and James Roundy Sr. He was a remarkable child, with a contagious smile that could light up the darkest days. He was kind, loving, and never met a stranger. Jalon possessed natural leadership qualities and was incredibly creative. He had a passion for music and was a gifted lyricist.
As a child, Jalon actively participated in the youth group at his mom's childhood church home, First Christian Church in Maywood, IL. When his family relocated to the Northwest Suburbs, he joined Life Changers International Church in Hoffman Estates, IL, where he was baptized under the guidance of Senior Pastor Gregory Dickow. Jalon found solace and spiritual fulfillment through his faith.
Jalon attended William Fremd High School in Palatine, IL, and later pursued higher education at Harper College. While Jalon had a successful career as an Assistant Manager at both Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza, his true passion lay in creating music.
Basketball held a special place in Jalon's heart. He began playing organized basketball in the 3rd grade and joined a local AAU team, The Crusaders, in Palatine, IL. Many of his Crusaders brothers continued to play alongside Jalon during his time as a Varsity Letterman at Fremd High School in Palatine, IL. After graduating High School, Jalon started as point guard at Harper College for two years, further honing his skills and passion for the sport. Jalon's love for the game extended beyond playing; he also coached in an in-house league through the Palatine Park District during his high school years.
On May 28, 2022, Jalon was blessed with his miracle, his daughter, Kamari Naija Roundy. He affectionately called her "Moon", which is the meaning of her name. Jalon was a doting Dad and took the role to heart by taking great care of her. He was a proud #GIRLDAD and already had baby Kamari out on the basketball court before she turned 1, teaching her offensive drills and how to "clap it up" to get hyped up before a game. He truly enjoyed spending quality time with Moon and playing music for her to dance. She was his heart and joy.
Jalon entered into eternal rest on November 22, 2023.
Jalon was the beloved son of Monikki Harper, James Roundy Sr, and James K. Harper. He is survived by his daughter, Kamari Naija Roundy, and his blended family; Brothers James B. Harper and James Roundy Jr (JJ) and Sisters Bria Harper and Myla Roundy, as well as his Nephew, Aris Collins. Jalon also had a strong bond with his family, including with his Uncles Calvin Bradley, Gustavus Bradley, Terris Bradley, and Leon Bradley Jr. (Cheryl); as well as his Cousin/Brothers, Corvin (Erica) Bradley, Camryn Bradley, Ezekiel Arthur Bradley (Mary), Kyle Molette-Roland, and Myles Molette-Hughes; His MeMa, Doris Hudson Molette, his Auntie's Cynthia and Anissa Molette, his Godmother Ketina Battle, and Kamari's Mom, Alexandria Smith. Jalon was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leon Sr. and Emma Mae Bradley, and his paternal grandparents, Fred and Elizabeth Roundy.
