Hawaii Virginia Johnson's Obituary
Hawaii Virginia Johnson was born on April 25, 1928 in Trenton, NJ to the late Frederick and Charley Jordan. She spent her childhood, growing up in Maples, NC. She was one of ten children. Hawaii was educated in the Currituck County Public school system. She was active in her childhood church; Good Hope AME Zion. She continued to support Good Hope after she moved away from her home town.
Hawaii moved from North Carolina to Washington, DC in 1947. She later attended Cortez Peters Business School, and George Washington University in Washington, DC. In 1954 she married Warren Leroy Johnson. They had two children, Warren and Kim.
Hawaii worked in the Federal Government for 37 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement, she relocated to Chesapeake, VA. The move put her closer to her childhood home. As she settled into life in Chesapeake, she found and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church. She remained a member for 20 years. Hawaii visited the sick with food, and a dose of encouragement. More than anything, she loved and worshipped God. She also loved her family. She found her joy with the Lord and with her family.
Hawaii was preceded in death by: brothers, Earl Jordan, Charley Jordan, Francis Jordan, Alec Jordan, Emile Bruce Jordan, Frederick Jordan, Cecil Jordan. One sister, Mable Jordan. She is survived by son, Warren Johnson; daughter, Kim Johnson Lockett; son-in-law, Anthony Lockett; sister, Sarah Hamilton; grandchildren, Zapora Johnson; Jamal Johnson; Tania Cornwell; loving caregiver, Jackie Ivey; five great-grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
