Hajira Thomas' Obituary
Hajira Thomas was born April 22, 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Malika and Sultan Ghani as Patricia "Pat" Ghani. She was the eldest of 8 siblings.
In 1978 Hajira moved to Atlanta with her daughter Michaeline Terry in whom she raised, nourished and loved deeply. In June of 1984, at the age of 29, 1984 she gave her life to Christ at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia and were baptized along with her daughter Michaeline.
On July 3, 2001, Hajira was united in marriage to Rev. Rufus D. Thomas.
Hajira and Rev. Rufus Thomas were faithful and active members to Mt. Calvary until the time of her departure. Hajira served as an Associate Minister and Church Secretary. She loved working in the church while praising the Lord on the praise team and would usher others to do the same.
During her tenure at Mt. Calvary, she served on various auxiliaries and ministries; which were: Music Ministry, Nursing Home/Sick & Shut-in Ministry, Children's Church, Vacation Bible School, Mt. Calvary Food Bank, Women's Ministry, Intercessory Prayer Line, Tuesday (Afternoon) Bible Study, Sunday School Superintendent and Pastoral Care. Her service did not stop there, she was also a support to the Transportation Ministry.
As a result of her generous spirit, humble personality, and influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.
Hajira was a beautiful person inside and out. She had such a sweet and loving spirit. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her loving and devoted husband of 21 years, Rev. Rufus Thomas; two daughters, Michaeline "Mikki" Terry, Tawana D. Thomas and one son, Simeon D. Thomas, four sisters; Barbara, Basheba "Tiny" Farley, Salima "Vanessa" Ghani, Ayesha Dula (Barry), and Fatima Smith(Kenneth) one brother, Saladin "Hank" Ghani and a host of nieces; Malika "Cherie", Janae, Jasmin, Yanira, Heather, Hope, and Lilly and two nephews Brandon and Kenneth Jr.
