Gregory Eugene Johnson's Obituary

Gregory Eugene Johnson Sr. was born June 20, 1957 to Helena Lynch Johnson and Harry L. Johnson in Boone County, West Virginia. He graduated from Andress High School in El Paso, Texas. After high school, he joined the United States Army and served for 26 years. Gregory faithfully served in the United States Army for 26 years. He was Active Duty in the 82nd Airborne Division for 21 years and served overseas for 5 years. He retired as a Master Sergeant and received an honorable discharge which he was most proud of. His loyalty, dedication and commitment to the United States Army and to his country was truly commendable.
January, 14, 1978 he was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life Barbara J. Johnson, in Dillion, South Carolina. To this union, God blessed them with one daughter Shonta' Lyons and one son Gregory E. Johnson, Jr. Family held a special place in Gregory's life, the birth of his grandsons were special moments in his life. The love he shared with Jonathan Jr and Greg II was beyond measure. He was a great husband, a phenomenal dad and the best granddaddy (Papa) in the whole wide world. Though his life on earth was short, between his dash of 1957-2019, the seeds of love that he planted in the lives and hearts of many will be cherished forever.
Greg enjoyed fishing, grilling, traveling and spending time with his family. He enjoyed gadgets (tech). His life was fruitful and he embraced every moment that he was given on this earth, He lived, loved and shared his heart with so many. For this Dear God, we say thank you for truly his living was not in vain. Family memories are priceless gifts that will never, ever be forgotten. He has a special place in the hearts of so many.
The family will forever cherish the love he shared with them as a great husband, a loving and supportive father and grandfather. His friendly disposition and loving spirit are precious memories that will forever be in their hearts. Not only did he serve his country, he also served and loved his family with pride and agape love.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry L. Johnson.
Those left to continue the journey and to uphold his legacy is his loving wife Barbara J. Johnson, his mother Helena Lynch Johnson, one daughter Shonta' Lyons (Jonathan Sr.}, one son Gregory E. Johnson Jr. (Sherelle), two grandsons Jonathan D. Lyons Jr. and Gregory N. Johnson; one brother Larry L. Johnson (Twanya), one nephew Sabastian Johnson, one niece Quincy Johnson and many, many friends. GREGORY EUGENE JOHNSON, SR. will always be in the hearts of those who love him. Another soldier has made it home. Thank you for your services. Today we salute you.
