Gladys Eugene Ammons-Smith's Obituary
Gladys Ammons Smith was born September 4th, 1939 in Conyers, GA to the late Frank and Gussie (Cunningham) Ammons. She was the third of six children born.
Gladys gave her life to Christ at Old Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at an early age. As a teenager, she sang in the choir. After moving to East Atlanta, Gladys worked at Kresge Department store and Bi-Low Grocery store. When she moved back to Conyers, she was employed by Stearns & Foster and later employed as a Personal Assistant to Mrs. Charlotte Wilson for over 20 years. Gladys loved to play cards, go to the casino and to fish. She taught several of her nieces and nephews how to fish. Gladys loved to plant beautiful flowers in her yard. During the Christmas season Gladys would put up a nativity scene in her yard and thousands of blue lights. Passersby would stop to admire and enjoy the beautiful display.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Tania T. Robinson and Tania's father Nathaniel Robinson, her brothers Melvin and James Ammons, and her sister Helen Usher.
Gladys was called to rest on January 18th, 2019 after an extended illness. She leaves to cherish her memories two devoted siblings, Bessie M. Gardner (James), Bernard Ammons (Sandra Yvonne); nieces Angela Anderson, Wanda Yvette Usher, Jocelyn Moore, Bettina Gardner; nephews Wayne Usher (Simone), James Fenton Gardner (Natasha); one aunt Mrs. Allean Hamm and a host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
