Gladis Mae Douglas' Obituary
Gladis Mae Douglas was born on April 22, 1945 in Warrenton, GA to Irene Davis and Grady Story. She departed this life Sunday, January 3, 2021 in her home.
Gladis was raised by Mary (Liza) Sims and Homer Story. She graduated from Warrenton High School. She then served 3 years in the US Army. After discharging from the US Army in 1967, she moved to New York City.
In New York City, she met and married Ronald Douglas in Harlem, NY. Their first son, Khari, was born May 20, 1971. They moved to Queens, NY in 1976. Their second child, Craig, was born August 6, 1980. Soon after, they had their third child, Brent Douglas, born September 20, 1984.
After spending approximately 23 years in Queens, NY, Gladis retired from Lockheed Martin and moved to Conyers, GA. Gladis found her new church home at St. Paul A.M.E. She was a member of the choir where she served as the President for some time. She, also, spent time on the Pastor's Aide Board as the Vice President. Gladis was also a member of the Christian Education, Drama Ministry and served on the Hospitality Committee. Gladis began working at Rockdale HS as a Librarian and then a substitute teacher until her retirement in December 2019.
Gladis is survived by sons, (Khari, Craig and Brent Douglas and their spouses Beatrice and Ebony Douglas), her grandchildren, (Trevor, Damani, Bryson and Braeden), her great grandchildren, (Brooklynn and Braelynn), her siblings on her mother's side, (Eula Mae Davis, Clementine Dunbar, Carlie Dunbar), her siblings on her father's side, (Willie C Story (Wife Karen), Grady Story Jr. (Wife Joyce), Brenda Grissom) and a host of other family members.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and siblings (Edith Tarver, Willie Tom Story (Living wife Ethel), and Willie James Story
(Living wife Linda).
Gladis was a fun-loving sweet heart who loved her family and her lord and savior. Her smile would light up the room. She could make friends anywhere. Gladis loved the time spent with her loved ones. She enjoyed reminiscing with them and laughing about old stories.
Celebration of Life Services for Gladis Douglas will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021. These services will be recorded and streamed live.
