Dorothy Pearl Byrd's Obituary
Dorothy Pearl Byrd was born on October 31st, 1941, in Blakely, GA to the late Minnie Price and Rufus Byrd, Sr. A few years later, her family relocated to Apopka, FL. In the early 1950s, her family once again relocated to Brooklyn, NY where she would remain through adulthood. In 1978, she relocated to Arverne, NY where she would raise her daughter and become very active in her community.
Dorothy graduated from Prospect Heights High School in 1960. She would go on to attend New York City Community College and Baruch College in New York City where she earned her Associates degree in Business Administration. In 1962, Dorothy found employment with the City of New York - Human Resources Administration and remained there until her retirement in May 1998. That same month, Dorothy moved to her final home in Lithonia, GA.
Dorothy's joys in life were spending time with family, bowling, traveling and attending church services at the Berean Christian Church in Stone Mountain, GA. She served her community as Treasurer for her Homeowners Association and the Seniors in Action Travel Club for over a decade.
Dorothy departed this life on April 29th, 2022, surrounded by her family. She leaves to celebrate her life; her daughter Yolanda Byrd and granddaughter Morgan Brantley of Conyers, GA; one sister Pearline Holley of Lithonia, GA; one brother, Rufus Byrd of Colquitt, GA; her dear friend, CB Clark of Scottdale, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and very close friends.
