Debra L Baker's Obituary
Mrs. Debra Baker (DeShane), 55, wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, died peacefully on November 2, 2018 at 4:10 pm surrounded by her family. She fought cancer with incredible strength and grace for the past 22 months.
Debra grew up in Illinois where she married and gave birth to three children before moving to Georgia in 1988. In Georgia, she re-married to her current husband, Calvin Baker. Throughout her life she held many different careers, but found that her greatest calling was to her family. In December 2012 she and her husband adopted their fourth child, Matthew. In 2016, she moved into her dream home surrounded by more than 3 acres of land containing fruit trees, blueberry bushes, and plenty of space to garden. She made the most of her final years, enjoying her dream house, spending quality time with her husband and youngest son, and vacationing with her children, grandchildren, and sister.
Debra's passions included collecting M&M's keepsakes, gardening, decorating for the Holidays, and caring for her family. Her turkey was never dry and her sugar cookies were beloved by all! She was an amazing hostess and loved caring for others. She had a selfless, yet strong willed nature and was always there for her family especially when they were in need.
Debra is survived by her husband of 25 years, Calvin Baker, her daughters, Star (Octavio) Somilleda and Kristin (David) Posada, her sons, Jeremy (Theresa) Meyer and Matthew Baker. Debra will be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren, Aiden, Alanna, Victoria, Mya, Ludo (grand puppy) and Falkor (grand puppy), by her sisters, Rose (Chris) Williamson and Donna DeShane, and her brothers, Lloyd (Pat), Louis (Carla), Kurt (Vanessa), and Robert DeShane. Debra was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and June DeShane, her brother Jeff DeShane, and her nephew Seth DeShane. She will be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
