Corine Agatha Smith's Obituary
"A Time to be Born"
The indelible book of life opened for Corine Agatha Smith on June 25, 1947, in Middlesex, St. Catherine, Jamaica.
"A Time to Build Up"
The measure of a life in this world is ultimately a personal one and is known by how one touches family and friends.
Corine Agatha Smith was a lady of faith who lived generously and unselfishly with a desire to show love from a pure heart, expecting nothing in return. She lived a life of holiness and exemplified the Word of God in Proverbs 31:10-12, 15, 20 and 25: "Who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life...She riseth also while it is yet night and giveth meat to her household...She stretches out her hand to the poor; yeah, she reaches her hands to the needed...Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come."
Corine was full of life, loved to travel with her traveling partners, and was always packed and ready for the next trip, whether by air, land, or sea, from one part of the world to the next. Corine was the first to pay for her trips-making sure no one had to wait on her. She was a timely woman who was never late for an appointment.
Corine loved her family and friends, but her grandchildren were most precious to her heart. "Don't you dare talk about her grandbabies!" She would defend them to the end, then take them quietly to the side and speak the truth with a kind and gentle spirit. She loved them individually, encouraged them, and there was nothing too hard to do for her grandchildren. But there was also a special place in her heart that was designed especially for Son-in-laws or as she would say, "Son'ner in-laws."
Corine believed in the celebration of life. She celebrated everyone and everything from the first day of school to the last, birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, graduations; you named it, she celebrated it! Corine made everyone feel special because she individualized what she did, so each person felt that extra-special kind of love.
"A Time to Educate"
Corine was a champion for education; she attended Georgia Medical Institute in Buckhead, Atlanta. She encouraged her biological and adopted children to go to school and do their personal best, to never stop learning. She demonstrated this through her own actions. Even post retirement from Grady, Corine attended and graduated with an additional certification to maintain her educational status for continued service.
"A Time to Work"
Corine was committed and dedicated to her career of being a nurse. She served with respect and a passionate heart for 32 years at Grady Memorial Hospital, where she gained life-long friends who became family. Following retirement, her passion for service continued. Corine worked at Restcare until the time of her death, where she continued her care for others.
