Christine Edgecombe's Obituary
Christine was born in St Johns, Antigua to George Martin and Gwendolyn (Billinghurst) Martin. She came to the United States with her mom at the age of 12. Christine moved to Manhattan New York with her mom to be near family. Christine was a member of Union Congregational church in Harlem NY. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School and pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. She spent her whole nursing career at Bellevue Hospital until retiring after 40 years of service. During that time, she met and married her love, William Edgecombe and from that union two children were born. John (Sandra) Edgecombe and Linda (Nathaniel) Bartley. Christine loved helping people and had a special place in her heart for children. She was a mentor and tutor to children in need in the community when she moved to Central Islip NY after her retirement. Christine moved to Georgia in 2007 and continued to help wherever she could. She joined Voices of Faith Ministries and became a part of the 50 plus ministry and Grandma's hands, still helping children. Christine was a donor to many charities, Unicef, the American Heart Association, Cancer and Alzheimer's research to name a few. Along with John and Linda, Christine leaves to mourn for her, Renee' Edgecombe-Whitaker and Samantha Edgecombe, her 2 bonus daughters. She also leaves her grandchildren Shaquana, Thierry, William, Nathaniel Jr, Natalie, Linnae', Sara, and Bradley. Her grandson Sebastian preceded her in death. Her great grandchildren, Terrell, Nechelle, Constasia, William Jr, Sunni, Karson, Carter, Aubree, Riley, Mia, and Naomi. Christine had her first great grandson Malachi, who sadly she did not get to meet. Christine had a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins and friends who will forever miss her but keep her memory alive.
Celebration of Life Services for Christine Edgecombe will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11AM. These services will be recorded and streamed live.
