Cecil Kelsey Sr's Obituary
Cecil Kelsey was born on November 13, 1950 to Timothy Kelsey, Sr. and Miley Mitchell Kelsey in Sandersville. Georgia. Cecil peacefully passed on June 9, 2026 surrounded by his family at Piedmont-Rockdale Hospital, Conyers, Georgia.
Cecil is the youngest of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy Sr. and Miley Kelsey and a grand-daughter, Timiya Watson.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Zion Church of God in Christ in Milledgeville, Ga. After moving to the Lithonia area and marrying his wife, he and his family joined Antioch-Lithonia Missionary Baptist Church.
Cecil graduated from J.F. Boddie High School in Milledgeville, Ga. in 1968 and was later enlisted in the Armed Forces (Army). He served a term in Vietnam. He then enlisted in the Army National Guard. Cecil received many honorable accreditations while serving in the military. He got an opportunity to work in the Inspector General Office. After returning from Vietnam, he came back to Milledgeville and began his career as an employee for the State of Georgia. He worked his way up the ranks from Correctional Officer to Deputy Warden. In 1985 he was honored and named Deputy Warden of the Year. During his last years of employment in the Georgia Department of Corrections, he worked as an Investigator in the Division of Internal Affairs.
Cecil retired from the Department of Corrections in 2003.
Cecil leaves to cherish his memories to his devoted wife, Jackie; four children, Kameron Kelsey, Cecil Kelsey, Jr., Courtney Kelsey and Cecilia Kelsey; three siblings, Aaron Kelsey, Deloris Bentley and Timothy (Cathy) Kelsey, Jr.; mother-in-law, Annas Mathis, sister-in-law, Latisha Mathis and a host of nieces, nephews, close cousins and friends.
Cecil has proudly served his country and the State of Georgia. He fought a good fight and now it’s time to take his rest.
