Carmel Bernella Jones' Obituary
Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also (John 14:1-3).
On October 4th at the Rockdale Healthcare Center in Conyers GA, Carmel was called home to rest after a long battle with Dementia at age 89.
Carmel Reid-Jones was born on January 14, 1932 in Portland, Jamaica to the late Aaron and Adlyn Reid. One of ten children, she was preceded in death by four brothers Layman Reid, Earl Reid, Roy Maitland and Branford Reid; one sister Thyra Hannam.
Carmel was educated in the public school system of Portland Jamaica. She owned and operated a Pastry Shop in Jamaica before migrating to the United States in 1970 (Detroit Michigan). She was welcomed into the home of her cousin Vincent Carr and his family. They assisted while she was adjusting to her new environment. She later met and married Ben Jones who preceded her in death. No children were born to this union. During her time in Detroit she worked as a Child Care Specialist.
In 2010 Carmel continued her life journey to Brooklyn, New York where she was welcomed into the home of her sister and brother-in law Harry and Gwendolyn Sutherland. While with Harry and Gwen, she surrendered her life to the Lord and what a glorious day that was. God ordered her steps where He needed her to be.
In 2016 Carmel again continued on her journey to Conyers Ga. Where God decided it would end and it was time to rest.
Carmel lived a self-less life, humble, loving, caring and kind, playing an integral part in each and every family member's life. Words are not sufficient to describe her and the happiness that she bestowed on her family and the community. Although she had no children of her own, she was blessed to become the mother and father of the family. We give all the glory and honor to God for sending her to us.
Carmel will be greatly missed by her brothers Terrance Reid and Stanford Reid, sisters Enid Reid and Gwendolyn Sutherland and also a loving brother in-law Harry Sutherland. Many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
