Brenda Yvonne Miles' Obituary
Brenda Yvonne Murphy was born on November 29, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York to the late William and Mary Murphy. She was preceded in death by her brother, William R. Murphy. Brenda married Ronald Miles in 1968. Together they had one son, Keith Ronald Miles.
Brenda knew she always wanted to be a teacher. She pursued this dream AND received a Bachelor Degree in Speech and Drama from Hofstra University, a Master Degree in Reading from C.W. Post University, and a Professional Diploma in Administration and Supervision from Brooklyn College. Brenda's teaching career spanned 33 years with the New York City Board of Education. She was nominated twice for Teacher of the Year. Brenda retired in 2001 from August Martin High School in Queens, New York where she served as Assistant Principal, Organization.
After retirement, she was active at St. Paul AME Church in Rockville Centre, New York. Brenda's energy was also focused on the community. She was past President and a Life Member of the Lakeview Branch of the NAACP, served on the Executive Board of the Lakeview Council, was a Trustee on the Board of the Lakeview Public Library and Vice-President of the West Hempstead Rotary Club.
In 2006, Brenda moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. She joined Springfield Baptist Church and was active in the Compassionate Ministry, Women's Ministry, Prayer Service and Sunday School. In 2015, Brenda moved to Conyers, Georgia to be closer to her family. Brenda always found time in her busy schedule for her family and friends. Brenda found fulfillment in life because she knew the Lord, was obedient to the Word of God, Trusted the Lord and lived by Faith. Brenda departed this life on Monday, September 10th at the age of 72 and she leaves to cherish her memory: a son, Keith R. Miles; Kinda, seven grandchildren (Jaron, Autumn, Antwon, Ariyana, Richard, Robert, and Andre), a sister, Carolyn Fulson, loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
