Beverly Alvira Hayes' Obituary
Beverly Alvira Hayes was born on December 17, 1950 in Kingston, Jamaica to Esline Perkins and Joshua Nelson. When she lived in Jamaica, she attended St. Cecelia Preparatory School and Meadowbrook High School. Beverly immigrated to the United States as a teenager and she finished her education in New York City. She lived in Harlem, New York for many years before she moved to the Bronx. She was a devoted Methodist and she loved God. While she lived in New York, she attended Thomas Memorial Wesleyan Methodist Church in Manhattan. Beverly went to school to become a medical secretary and she worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center until her retirement in 2005. In 2005, Beverly moved to Conyers, GA. Beverly always took care of her family. She helped raise her grandchildren. She is an integral part of who they are and who they will become. She taught them to work hard, love life and dream big. Beverly loved to garden. Most days, you would find her watering her plants or tending to her beautiful garden. Beverly also loved to cook for her family. She loved to host Thanksgiving dinner for her sons, grandkids and daughter-in-law. Beverly worked hard to give her children a good life. She cherished her time with her kids. She loved going on outings with her children and she valued the time that she spent with her grandchildren. She loved sitting around with her sons and hearing about their lives. She valued her long conversations with her daughter. She basked in the accomplishments and milestones of her children and grandchildren. Beverly enjoyed retelling stories about her childhood. She would counsel her family members and friends. She never met a stranger. Everyone loved her and her pleasant demeanor. Beverly is survived by her three children: Melvin Thomas, Kisha Thomas and Daniel Holmes. Beverly had ten grandchildren (Tyreke Punch, Shaquiel Dover, Shaikuan Thomas, Nasir Thomas, Daniel J. Holmes, Skye Dover, Jalil Thomas, Laila Thomas, Derrick Holmes and Amir Thomas). In addition to her children and grandchildren, Beverly is survived by her brothers, Desmond Jacques, Errol Nelson and Fitzgerald Nelson and her daughter-in-law, Kecia Thomas. Beverly was also loved by her sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends in the United States, Grand Cayman Islands, Jamaica, England and other countries around the world. Her presence will be greatly missed. Her light will continue to shine through everyone that she touched. Her spark is eternal.
