Alex Harold Rankins' Obituary
Alex Rankins was born November 15, 1956, to Herbert and Verna Rankins in Pensacola Florida.
In 1973, he was awarded a full football scholarship to Morris Brown College. Not only did he excel as a record breaking running back but also as an exceptional artist. Although he was pursued by many NFL teams, after college he chose to play in the American Football League for the Shreveport Steamers. When his time with the Steamers was over, in true Alex form he decided upon entrepreneurship. All Type Signs was founded in 1987 and was operated until his passing. Alex accepted his call into Christian ministry in 2002. Alex loved to minister to the less fortunate or anyone who would listen. He attended St. Mark AME Church where he was a dedicated Sunday School Teacher.
Alex displayed the characteristics of a God-Fearing Man. He was a loving, kind, and giving soul who touched the lives of everyone he met with a warm smile and humble disposition.
Alex departed his earthly home on December 30, 2021, after a brief illness. He was greeted by his parents Herbert and Verna Rankins, brother Ivo Rankins, and longtime football buddies, Clarence Jackson and Myron Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Denise Rankins, daughter Brittany (Christopher)Bolton, grandchildren Alexander and Londyn Bolton, Sisters Beverly Rankins, Ellis Lovely, Verna (Willie)Sanders, Anne Eason, Myria Martin, Janet Lloyd, Brothers Herbert (Caroline) Rankins, George (Tonya) Rankins, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
